Building Bridges with Higher Education is a pathway to higher education, professional development education, and continuing education. Funded by the Washington State Department of Early Learning (DEL), Building Bridges is a set of courses designed specifically to provide critical professional education for educators and caregivers of children birth through eight. The courses were developed by WAPECP (representatives from various community colleges across WA) and each meets agreed higher learning curriculum expectations. DEL defrays tuition costs so that early learning professionals can gain “meaningful college credit at an affordable price in their community.

“Meaningful college credit” means that students can use the credit they earn for any professional education needs, including CDA, Certificates and two year degrees.

For each Building Bridges course, students earn 10 hours of STARS continuing education and one college credit, while gaining meaningful, relevant and coherent course content.

The Project offers four basic courses that are accepted for direct or transfer credit at many local colleges. They cover these essential early learning topics – Infant and Toddler Caregiving ; Guiding Behavior of Young Children ; Child, Family and Community Relationships; and Administration of Early Learning Programs. Each is designed as a series of three modules, which can be taken in any order. Taking all three one-credit modules in a series is the equivalent of a quarter-long college course.
