Welcome to Special Needs

Early childhood development is by nature uneven. And for most children, the inconsistency in early development will even out.

For some children, however, a family member, child care provider, pre-school or kindergarten teacher may have concerns about a child’s pre-academic or academic development. In other cases, parents have concerns about their child’s development before he/she even enters school. Regardless of when or who shares their concerns first, for children with learning disabilities early diagnosis and intervention is an important part of getting your child the help he/she needs.

This focus on early identification, assistance or intervention for learning differences is based on the knowledge that children who need services and receive them early fare better than those who are not identified until later. Some special needs can be identified as early as at birth.

There are many groups and resources, both locally and statewide, available to help families and caregivers provide support and identify next steps. The links below were chosen to help you connect with the information and people who can assist you in locating the resources you need to help you help the special child in your life.
